Do you have a growing space at school but find it tricky to use? Perhaps time, confidence or managing pupils outdoors feels like a barrier.
This one day course delivered by Grow to School CIC as part of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society CPD Programme, is designed to enable attendees to set up and run a simple growing area in the space available at their school.
Developed for both teachers with a whole class or support staff with small groups, everyone can access and benefit from food growing and nature engagement. Attendees will leave feeling confident, inspired and ready to bring growing into their school day in a way that works for them and their pupils.
The course will cover:
Getting started: Simple techniques to sow, grow and care for plants with children.
Managing the Outdoors: Tips to run whole class gardening sessions that are fun, focused and manageable.
Connecting to the curriculum: A cross-curricular approach with an emphasis on science, covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering and Maths.
What you will take away: Digital copies of all the activities covered in the course, including a simple growing guide to facilitiate a thriving edible garden in your school.
Suitable for: All teachers, teaching assistants and support staff who want to take learning outdoors, even if it is for the first time.
Please note: Starting a School Vegetable Garden will include both indoor and outdoor sessions so please bring appropriate clothing and footwear.
This course is free for participants and has been organised and funded by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
