A discussion exploring the unlikely intersections between BTB and entangled histories of football hooliganism, textiles, fashion and more...
About this Event

Artist Jamie Holman (John Moores 2025), Professor Andrew Groves (Westminster Menswear Archive), Henry Griffin (designer and author of Hoolicards, published by 550), and vintage sportswear collector Tom Washington (MeeToATee) come together in conversation around a museum installation of bootleg football surveillance DVDs and the launch of the second edition of Hoolicards, a collection of football firm “business cards” from the 1980s.

The discussion explores the unlikely intersections between the British Textile Biennial and the entangled histories of football hooliganism, textiles, fashion, design, and performance, and how these forces have shaped wider culture. It will consider how design practices of the 1980s, such as calling cards, resurface today in the resurgence of flag-making, performative protest in public spaces, and the articulation of identity through visual and material culture.

This event builds on research previously commissioned by the British Textile Biennial with adidas Spezial (2021) and C.P. Company (2023).

Before the panel discussion starts there will be a MeToATee pop-up shop from 11am-2pm, including rare and vintage Spezial and C.P. Company items for sale.

In association with Creative Lancashire.
