ABOUT THE CLASS
Whether you're stepping on stage for the first time or sharpening your act, this 8-week workshop is about turning your life into comedy. We’ll focus on mining your unique experiences, perspectives, and quirks to develop a standup voice that’s unmistakably you.
Through writing exercises, performance drills, and supportive feedback, you’ll learn how to:
- Transform personal stories into compelling, hilarious material.
- Hone your delivery to match your authentic voice.
- Refine existing jokes with stronger structure, timing, and originality.
- Own the stage with confidence, whether you’re tackling fears or leveling up.
No prior experience? Perfect. Got jokes but want to dig deeper? Even better. By the end, you’ll have a tight 5-minute set that sounds like you, nobody else!
At The Nova Comedy Collective, we call this a LAUNCH CLASS - meaning it's the perfect place to start your journey, and absolutely no prior experience is necessary!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
David doesn't really know what he's doing, but it's worked pretty well so far. Once described as "the greatest living comedic mind" by himself and "not the Wendy's guy" by Dan Mintz, David broke into the Boston standup scene by hosting a weekly show, Stand Up Break In, at The Riot Theater for 4 years. Honing his act of dry witticisms, self-musings and mostly stuff that's weird and stupid, David has opened for Tim Heidecker, Doug Lussenhop and Brent Weinbach of "Tim and Eric" from Adult Swim, hosted for Rory Scovel, performed in the Women In Comedy Festival, and produced The People's Show, ImprovBoston's longest-running weekly standup showcase. David has performed at theaters and colleges in New England, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Taking inspiration from comedians such as Eugene Mirman, Tig Notaro and Demetri Martin, David approaches standup comedy the same way he thinks you oughta approach everything else: by being yourself.
