I'm looking for several volunteers to support a very specific task on Saturday the 13th of July at Loch Ness. What's just as elusive as the Loch Ness Monster? The answer of course would be a 'Standing Wave' - We know for a fact that this natural phenomena exist due to cause and effect, but unfortunately we seem to be short on video footage showing us these examples and how a 'standing wave' behaves on the surface of Loch Ness.
The requirements and our goal are fairly straightforward...
If you attend this event then you'll be required to position yourself either on the Loch shoreline or in a specific location with a commanding view of the Loch. All your attention will be focused on the tour boats travelling up and down the Loch.
A standing wave, is a combination of two boat wakes moving in opposite directions, with each having the same amplitude and frequency. This natural interference can most certainly play tricks on your eye's. Amplitude, frequency and velocity is the key.
I've selected several locations with a more favourable commanding view over the Loch and you're welcome to position yourself in any one of them. The locations are as followed:
LNE1) Urquhart Castle
LNE2) Fort Augustus viewpoint
LNE3) Large layby overlooking Urquhart Bay
LNE4) Stone wall layby overlooking the Point
If you need a visual aid then please see the images provided within this invite/event. I personally will be on Deepscan for a few hours in the morning and when I'm finished I'll be able to join you. It's my hope to capture a standing wave on film, pictures and from above using our drones. If this is something you can support then please let me know. I'll be there either way!
