10th September - 8th October (no class 1st Oct)Renowned comedy director and coach Chris Head offers a clear and practical framework for comedians and storytellers looking to transform personal anecdotes into stand-up routines or comical stories. Learn how to apply strategic embellishment, a strong comedic persona, and a comic structure to create consistent laughter.
On this course you will take one or more true stories and edit, exaggerate, and even fabricate elements to heighten the comedic effect. This involves identifying the central "comedic game" of a story and amplifying it. You will also explore the development of your distinct comedic persona. You could be the “straight person” navigating the absurdities of the situation, or alternatively you could be "the idiot in the story"!
In essence, Chris Head's approach to storytelling in stand-up is a methodical process of transformation. Across four weeks take the raw material of real-life experience and mould it into a comedic performance. The course concludes on the fifth evening with a Stand-up Storytelling Show. Beginners and improvers welcome.
Showcase on Wednesday 15 October.
