Stand Up Level One

This seven week, *in person* course will focus on the writing and performing of stand up comedy. Students will learn to use joke structures and other tools to create their own material, culminating in an original five minute stand up set. The second half of this class will focus on revising and performing their set as part of a stand up showcase for family & friends. While there is no prerequisite for this course, completion of our Comedy Writing class is recommended.

This course will focus on:

• What is stand up (and what is not)
• Premises, metaphors, and simile
• Learning to be comfortable by yourself on stage
• Adding Act Outs to your material
• Creating a set list
• Pitching jokes & new material
• Writing and performing your five minute set

This is a 7-week reoccurring course held Saturdays 1-3pm CST starting Saturday, March 6th. The instructor is Aaron Aryanpur. All sales are final. Classes are non-refundable but enrollment can be deferred to a future class. All students must adhere to policies in the Stomping Ground Student Handbook. Must be 18 years or older.

This class will meet for the first four weeks online with the final three weeks meeting in person at Stomping Ground Comedy Theater. Students must have internet connection and access to Zoom to participate. Must have a mask or other PPE, subject to instructor approval, to attend in person classes. Class sizes will be limited to 10 students. Classrooms, common areas, and bathrooms will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between classes; to ensure student safety, only one class will meet in the building at a time.
