Session #2: 1 - 4pm

Location: Performance Space

Registration + supplies fee: Member $125 / Non-Member $140

Ages 18+

Let’s make something luminous together!

This workshop welcomes participants for a three-hour, hands-on session of learning, design, and creative making. Guided by artist Kolika Chatterjee, participants will create two to three stained glass mobiles made soldered with jewelry-grade brass chains. Choose from two sessions on October 5: the morning session at 10am or the afternoon at 1pm.

Choose from an array of pre-cut glass shapes and colors, and learn how to foil, burnish, flux, and solder working with the dynamics and geometry of glass. With brass chains and jump rings, participants will assemble their pieces into unique, kinetic arrangements that spin, sway, and catch light beautifully all year—each reflecting the maker’s own style and imagination.

Perfect for beginners or those with some experience, this class is all about creative exploration—not following someone else’s patterns. Bring your sense of wonder!

---

Note: All materials are provided, but if you’d like to incorporate a favorite jewel or a collected rock or shell no larger than 1” in any dimension into your mobiles, you’re welcome to bring it to the workshop.

---

Safety:

All safety gear is provided in this class: KN95 masks, heat safe gloves, nitrile gloves, goggles. If however you need something specific, please feel free to bring or reach out to the facility or instructor with questions. Wear close toed shoes and clothes covering your hands and legs. Be mindful of sharp and hot materials while working. We don’t allow food and drinks near the workspace. There will be comfort breaks built in.

This class is strictly 18+

The items you make here are not ideal for children or pets. Mobiles are decorative and like anything with strings or small parts, can be a choking hazard, please display carefully and far away from reach of children, babies, pets or anyone who might be compromised.

Registration for the class closes on September 28.

About Kolika Chatterjee:

Kolika is a self-taught glass artist in Somerville, MA known for her botanically-inspired glass home goods (both stained glass and kiln-formed), asymmetric aesthetics, and use of negative space. You might know her brand as Kanch (glass).

Kanch by Kolika can be found in many shops and galleries around the country, including in the Shop at 3S.

Drawing on a past career as a scientist, Kolika brings an experimental and analytical approach to her studio where her glassmaking is part intuitive and playful, and part precise and structured.

Kolika teaches glass garden workshops to adult students from NH to RI. She encourages beginners and experienced glass makers to engage in this equipment-heavy craft with wonder, and push the boundaries of the old school rules to connect with your elemental creativity.

The goal of each workshop stretches beyond individual flowers: the project is ultimately about the experience: the joy of co-creation in shared space, the humility of learning a craft with strangers, the tactile magic of working with our hands, and the generosity of opening ourselves up and sharing our ideas with others.

3S Artspace is supported in part by grants from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts; the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and NHCF's Geoffrey E. Clark and Martha Fuller Clark Fund; and Little Bay Fund.
