'La Mort de Suzanne' by Timothy Antoine Callais is inspired by a true Cajun ghost story that began on the evening of January 9, 1957 and continues to haunt every branch of a family tree to this day.Originally titled 'Susan', the first attempt at putting this story onto stage was penned by Callais at 16 years old in ‘Old Arabi,’ Louisiana during the 2002 Christmas season. This edition was shared amongst high school friends, then sadly lost in the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
In the spring of 2017, a second edition of 'Susan' commenced on the border of the Kapahulu and Kaimuki neighborhoods in Honolulu, Hawai’i as a project for Callais’s master’s degree. This edition would later evolve into Act Two of a larger story about generational trauma, which saw its completed first draft in three acts finalized in Gonzales, Louisiana on June 10, 2025.
