Stagecoach Mountain Ranch- It’s Not a Done Deal!On February 18 the Trappers Lake Sierra Club is presenting a forum by a panel of experts on issues of concern in the proposed Stagecoach Mountain Ranch. The forum will take place at Library Hall Bud Werner Library at 5:30 pm. We hope to inform the community and motivate citizens to make comments to the County voicing their concerns and recommendations regarding this large private development in South Routt currently under review. There will be petitions to sign and written information as well.
Former Steamboat Springs City Manager, Gary Suiter, will be the keynote speaker. CSU professor, Bob Woodmansee will describe potential impacts to water. Keep Routt Wild’s Larry Desjardin and TJ Thrasher will address wildlife concerns. City Councilperson Amy Dickson will outline concerns of the City of Steamboat Springs related to SMR. John Spezia, will speak to impacts on traffic, roads and climate concerns. Roger Ashton will speak on affordable housing issues.
The developers of Stagecoach Mountain Ranch, Discovery Land Company, have built similar exclusive private communities around the world. One of the first is described in the book, Billionaire Wilderness: The Ultra-Wealthy and the Remaking of the American West. Because of environmental issues related to water, transportation, wildlife, carbon footprint, as well as socioeconomic and community character impacts, the Trappers Lake Group of the Sierra Club is joining with other environmental and citizen groups in Routt County who have concerns about this development.
