PowPAC proudly presents, a staged reading of episode 1 of Shirley & Mrs. Shelley on Sunday, October 5th at 6:00 pm, at the Poway Performing Arts Company at 13250 Poway Road Poway, California. General seating tickets are $10. SHIRLEY & MRS SHELLEY Episode 1 is the self-standing pilot to a planned series of stage play installments of a larger narrative for which a dozen shorter tales have been outlined. It’s a new concept in play development, a process which captivates the show’s creator.
Synopsis:
Professional horror author and amateur witch Shirley Jackson is trying a spell to cure a case of writer’s block, when she accidentally conjures the spirit of Mary Shelley, author of the pioneering horror novel Frankenstein. Together, the two women set-out to solve the disappearance of a Bennington College co-ed –just as a new dean at the school is looking into Shirley’s husband, a philandering professor who saw the girl last.
Cast:
Sarah LeClair (The Last Five Years and MURDER BALLAD) plays Shirley Jackson
Susan Clausen as Mrs. Shelley in a role written for her.
Hailey Andrews as Bennington College co-ed, Phoebe.
David Lanni as the charming mysterious new dean at the school.
Steve Murdock plays the critic and lecturer Stanley Edgar Hyman, Shirley’s philandering spouse.
Director:
Tim West is Director of Playwright’s Saloon, a monthly staged play reading series at Trinity Theatre, 2025-26. West is a 2016-17 Creative Catalyst Fellow who served as Teaching Artist and Director of Community Engagement 2013-21 at Cygnet Theatre, where he is also a Resident Artist. A produced/published playwright as well as a noted award-winning director, his works have been seen locally and in Colorado, Illinois, Virginia, New York City and Kent, UK. He wrote “S&MrsS” for his many actor friends.
