Step back in time and explore Stafford’s rich heritage during the Stafford History Day event. As a part of this event, Historic Stafford will have multiple activities to take part in:📍 Stafford Heritage Trail – Meet at 11.30am at the Ancient High House – Join Historic Stafford for a 45 minute guided tour around the town’s historic landmarks. This will be a free and shorter version of our popular Stafford Heritage Trail (dates for which can be found under ‘What’s On’).
📍 Borough Borderers Talk – 10.30am at the Ancient High House – Join us for a 30 minute talk on the Borough Broderers who created Stafford’s intricate embroidered textiles. A free tour will highlight their craftsmanship. Volunteers will also be stationed in key rooms to share fascinating, untold stories of the house’s history.
📍 Witch Marks Talk – 2.00pm at the Ancient High House – Our second talk of the day, come along for this 30 minute experience and learn about the witch marks found across the walls of the Ancient High House and listen in to historical detail of witch craft and trials.
📍 Volunteers bring the Ancient High House to life! – 10.00am to 4.00pm – Volunteers will be situated in several of the rooms of the Ancient High House, on hand to talk about the buildings fascinating history.
📍 Stafford Castle comes to town! – 10.30am to 3.00pm – Experience a living history display within a stall in the Market Square including:
🔹 Historical weaponry demonstrations and handling
🔹 Coin minting (additional charge)
🔹 Brass rubbing
🔹 Try on chain mail and armour
Please be aware that the talks and tours will have a limited number of spaces and these are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
