About this Event
St. Pirans Day Trelawny Shout!
Come be a part of what promises to be a fun filled evening of cheer with sea shanties and songs from our very own local groups Wasson (Calstock) and The Kelliwick Golowi Band. Over the evening the bands will be performing a mix of shanties, classic folk songs, Cornish songs and some fresh originals plus the 9pm Trelawny shout!
Wasson regularly perform around the county’s pubs and annual Shanty Festivals, 2024 saw them giving performances at Mevagissey Shanty Festival, supporting and collaborating with other local favourites such as Pork Chop and Barratts Privateers. The group are generously giving a portion of their fee to a charity of their own choosing.
Kelliwick Golowi bring joy and music to the town of Callington at the yearly festival of the same name, and continue to meet and share music with each other thought out the year at a variety of venues.
Tickets can be downloaded on Eventbrite at no fee, but donations, cash preferred, in lieu of tickets on the night, is suggested at £5.
Why are we collecting funds? We want to contribute to our surrounding community working closely with local charities and for this event in particular that is the Callington Youth Group, to help them reach their goal of purchasing ‘The Vault’ as a permanent youth centre. St. Mary’s covers the costs involved in hosting an event, raising funds helps us to continue putting on more community events and providing things like our weekly open kitchen providing a lunch time meal to all who come with no fee, run on donations only. The proceeds of this fundraisers will be split 50/50.
So is it Free? We like to make sure the whole community can be welcomed to events, including those who otherwise might not be able to afford a full price ticket. So we set a recommended donation which we hope, those who can make a contribution will, no matter how big or small. So there is no fee but we do encourage the recommended donation of £5 per person which can be paid on the evening. Events like this are organised by volunteers and supported by donations, simply put, we could not do this without the generous support of those who give freely their time, and donations on the night.
There will be a well stocked licence bar plus soft drinks and hot pasties just out of the oven, plus tea coffee and the original ‘Callington Bun!’.
We wish you the warmest of welcomes, where we want you to feel at home, at our church the heart of Callington, perfect for enjoying a night of entertainment with friends and family.
