St Nicolas Church is having open day 10am-4pm and you're welcome to come in, have a look round and have a cuppa. The church is also part of Ride and Stride.2025–26 marks the 37th anniversary of Hampshire & the Islands Historic Churches Trust (HIHCT), the Trust is a non-denominational charity which raises funds towards the upkeep of some 900 historic church buildings dating from the 8th to the 20th century. Since 1988, HIHCT has provided grants, conservatively estimated at over £1.25 million, to help repair, restore and maintain churches, their contents and churchyards. About 300 churches, chapels and meeting houses have benefitted so far.
Not every church participates each year but anyone can support the trust by participating in the annual fundraising Ride and Stride (and driving round as well) on Saturday 13th September 2025, so please consider taking part this year! It’s a fun event for all ages. Over the last 37 years Riders and Striders have raised a staggering £1.25 million towards the upkeep of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight’s historic churches.
Half of that money has gone to the church of the participant’s choice while the other half, plus Gift Aid, has gone to HIHCT for allocation in much-needed grants and loans to churches of all denominations. Ride and Stride details can be found on the trust’s website: www.hihct.org.uk
