About this Event

As part of our exhibition "Inspired Sound", The Athenaeum is hosting a tour of the St John the Baptist Church in Manayunk. The church's organ is featured in our current exhibition. Guests will go on a tour of the church with Rich Van Fossen Jr, followed by an organ performance by Karen Whitney.

Free parking for 40 cars in the Church's lot next to the building

Manayunk Regional Rail Station (on the Norristown Line) is just a few blocks northwest of the Church on Cresson Street

Masks will be required during the tour.


Tour Guide: Richard Van Fossen, Jr., Co-chairman of the Friends of St. John the Baptist Church. Rich spear-headed the effort to save the church from closure.

Organist: Karen Whitney is Director of the Children’s Music Program at Salem Baptist Church (Jenkintown, PA). She is a former music librarian at the Free Library of PhiladelphiaShe is active with the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and has performed for the Guild’s Noontime Recital Series. Ms. Whitney is an Advisory Committee Member of Partners for Sacred Places' Playing and Preserving Project.
