About this Event

Sputnik Saturdays are a day for Christian creatives to meet together, eat food, share work, have meaningful chat and more. They take place right here in the centre of the Midlands: our beloved Birmingham!

Join us for the first Sputnik Saturday of 2026, where our topic is Flesh & Blood...

How do you express, channel and encourage compassion through your work? Are we thinking about the dignity and care of individual human beings in every stage of our process? And how do we make art that matters to people, that makes a real human connection — not just a commercial exchange?

Lunch is provided — please notify us of any dietary requirements via email to [email protected]

Our 'after-party' runs from 5-7pm, where you can bring your own food/drink, or buy from the many takeaway options in Harborne.

Rachel Ho

Rachel Ho has a passion for creating ceramic art that expresses and explores aspects of our human condition. Her art is mostly wheel based but she also use other techniques such as paper clay. After graduating with a first class degree in Fine and Applied Art at the University of Ulster in Belfast, she continued her training by completing the DCCol Ceramics Skills and Design course in Co. Kilkenny. Rachel further developed her skills by working professionally in various potteries in Ireland and New Zealand.

Rachel’s art has been displayed in a number of exhibitions in major cities in the UK. She has recently led a public art project across four cities, the aim of the project was to speak into our self worth and collective belonging. Rachel also leads immersive and creative workshops with various community groups.

Caner Mutu

Filmmaker and photographer: "Street photography was what got me into film. Photographers like Sergio Larrain, those from LIFE magazine and Magnum Photo all made a huge impression on me. I was amazed that even with a single frame, you can tell a deep and meaningful story. Taking an old 35mm SLR outside was all I needed to get going.

"Nowadays, I want to create work that evokes and challenges me. To start conversations and live off the screen as much as on it. At this point in time, it's exciting to be part of influencing culture, celebrating what makes us who we are and looking at what could be done differently. My work has allowed me to build some fantastic relationships with some of the most amazing people who share the same heart - to create work that immerses and connects in a meaningful way."
