Join us for a fun workshop about seeds to learn about seed starting, reading seed packets and garden planning. Great for homeschoolers too!About this Event
Ready to get your hands dirty? Join the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers for our annual Spring Seed Fling! Whether you are a seasoned grower or have never planted a single seed, this event is designed to give you the confidence to start your own vegetable garden this year.
What You’ll Learn:
- Seed Starting 101: Learn the secrets to successful germination and how to care for baby seedlings.
- Cracking the Code: We’ll show you how to read a seed packet like a pro—understanding "days to maturity," planting depth, and spacing.
- Timing is Everything: Master the Central Carolina Planting Calendar so you know exactly when to plant for a bountiful Lee County harvest.
- Explore the Network: Learn how to access free seeds throughout the year at our various Seed Library Lockers across the county.
Homeschool Group Highlights (NO unaccompanied minors!):
This event is a fantastic hands-on science opportunity for local students! Our "Spring Seed Fling" covers several core educational concepts, including:
- Plant Biology: Parts of a seed and the life cycle of a plant.
- Data & Literacy: Analyzing information on seed packets and using local climate data/calendars for planning.
- Community Science: Understanding how local resource networks (like our Seed Library) support food security and sustainability.
We welcome local homeschool cooperatives and families to join us for this interactive morning of learning!
Don’t miss this chance to celebrate the start of the growing season and stock up on knowledge (and seeds!) for your 2026 garden.
