Meeting up with Children’s Lively Minds: A conversation Reframing Behaviour

What is the source of challenging behaviours? If every behavior has a reason, and happens in a context, what is an Educator to do? What is the source of a ‘challenging’ behavior? How do we reframe behavior guidance away from discipline and punishment? How to we shift our focus to connection and relationships?

This interactive keynote will explore these ideas and help you develop practical strategies and reflective questions to support you in understanding the children, and yourself, more fully; and support the facilitation of more peaceful environments.”


<h4>PM Session:</h4>
Understanding and Supporting Early Learners with Autism

In this introductory level training, participants will learn about autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and how it is experienced by different individuals and families. Learn how to respond effectively by implementing essential support strategies that will promote successful inclusion of autistic children in the child care setting. Participants will:

  • Become familiar with the characteristics of ASD​.
  • Understand the strengths and challenges you might observe in a child with ASD​.
  • Become familiar with tips, strategies, and resources for interacting with children with ASD​.
  • Become familiar with the term “Autism-friendly”.
  • Identify how to pair, effectively building a positive relationship with autistic children in your care.
  • Learn how to use communication temptations to increase spontaneous language.
  • Support successful transitions in childcare settings.

Dr. Jean Clinton is renowned nationally and internationally as an advocate for children’s issues. Her special interest lies in brain development, and the crucial role relationships and connectedness play. Jean champions the development of a national, comprehensive child well-being strategy including a system of early learning and care for all young children and their families. She is equally committed to ensuring that children’s and youth's needs and voices are heard and respected.


Rebecca Devlin is a Learning Specialist and Market Analyst at Sonderly. She is a passionate trainer, content developer and educator, who thoroughly enjoys facilitating the learning of educational professionals across the province of Ontario. Rebecca is an instructor therapist for over 10 years in Ontario, and has worked extensively teaching individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders including Autism Spectrum Disorder and intellectual disabilities for over 15 years.
