- Companion planting and crop rotation basics.
- Creating a garden map.
- Participants will be provided with graph paper to sketch out their ideal garden layout.
Class #2: Prep Your Garden
Topics:
- Soil testing and amending.
- Tools and equipment needed.
- Setting up irrigation and fencing.
Class #3: Plant Your Garden
Topics:
- Direct seeding vs. transplanting.
- Timing and spacing of planting.
- Techniques for planting seeds and seedlings.
- Bring seeds packets to participate in a class wide seed exchange!
Class #4: Preserve Your Garden
Topics:
- Harvesting techniques for peak flavor and nutrition.
- Canning, drying, freezing, and fermenting produce.
- Seed saving basics.
- Participants will participate in a simple preservation project to take home with them!
