The Lenawee Community Chorus proudly presents our Spring Concert: Songs of the British Isles, Sunday, April 6 at 4pm at Adrian First United Methodist Church, 1245 W. Maple Avenue in Adrian. Tickets are $15 for adults, free for children and students, and are available for purchase online at lenaweechorus.org or at the box office when doors open at 2:30pm. Thank you to our sponsors - TLC Community Credit Union and Rima Manufacturing. Our concert’s title “Songs of the British Isles” might immediately bring to mind traditional folk songs from England, Ireland, or Scotland. Our program includes some of these to be sure, but also some surprises that you may find yourself singing along to. Brad Pierson, our artistic director and conductor, made selections based on his passion for the music of that region. He has included several songs he’s arranged himself. “From Danny Boy to Hey Jude, and from Robert Burns to Monty Python, our concert aims to capture the essence of the British Isles in song,” said Pierson. “So many beautiful melodies come from this area and we are so excited to share them with you.”
ABOUT THE LENAWEE COMMUNITY CHORUS
The Lenawee Community Chorus, at 58 years strong, is Michigan’s oldest continually operating ensemble of its type — a no-audition group comprised of local people of all musical abilities who just love to come together and make music. New members are always welcome! Rehearsals are held Wednesdays evenings 7-9pm, September through April, and now held at Adrian First United Methodist Church in Adrian. We focus on learning new literature, improving vocal skills, and sharing a love of vocal music with our Lenawee County community.
Founded in 1967, the Lenawee Community Chorus enjoyed being a chorus in residence at Adrian College for fifty years. There were many performances done in collaboration with the Adrian Symphony Orchestra. In 2017, changing circumstances at the college required the Lenawee Community Chorus’s leaders to find new rehearsal space and resources. There were many challenges to overcome, particularly through the Covid pandemic, but thanks to the dedication of those steadfast leaders, wonderful singers, and the generosity of community supporters we are thriving!
Over the last two years, we have recruited a new conductor-artistic director and piano accompanist. We’ve formed a new volunteer board of directors, while incorporating new singers and sponsors. We are grateful for finding a new host location for rehearsals and concerts: Adrian First United Methodist Church. We’ve achieved our strategic goals of increased membership, fundraising, community engagement and partnerships. We keep ties with Adrian College through an open invitation to sing with the chorus directed by Phil Clark. We are excited at the prospect of new musical collaborations, like the American Heritage Concert we’ll be performing with the Adrian City Band this summer during Adrian’s Bicentennial Celebration, Thursday, July 3rd at 7pm at the Farmer’s Market Pavilion, 115 Toledo St.
