We are really excited to be opening the celebrations marking 150 years of Todmorden’s magnificent Town Hall, with a special concert. The programme celebrates our region's musical heritage. It opens with 'A Celebration', a special commission by Todmorden composer Tim Benjamin, followed by Brahms' Violin Concerto performed by internationally-acclaimed and Calderdale-raised violinist, Martyn Jackson.
Martyn played with Todmorden Orchestra when he was a teen. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and is a graduate of the Royal College of Music. He performs internationally and we are really excited to welcome him back to Todmorden.
The second half of the concert showcases British composers with northern connections, and includes William Walton's Crown Imperial Coronation March, Ernest Tomlinson's Fantasia on Auld Lang Syne, George Butterworth's The Banks of Green Willow, and Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 4.
Tickets are free, thanks to support from Calderdale Council, Todmorden Town Council, National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Community Foundation for Calderdale.
Donations are welcomed to support our work bringing world-class soloists to Todmorden, and making live orchestral music accessible to all through our family concerts.
Tickets are available online or in person at Todmorden Information Centre.
