About this Event

Join us for an exciting afternoon of birdwatching at Indian Prairie Public Library. Get ready to explore the beauty of nature and discover a variety of bird species in their natural habitat. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced birder, these events are perfect for all ages and skill levels.

We have an afternoon of birding fun planned as Indian Prairie Public Library, Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum, DuPage Birding Club and Darien Garden Club collaborate to celebrate Spring Bird Migration in early May.

Learn how to spy local birds in nature with hands-on fun using binoculars to spot birds in the library’s garden. There will be kid-friendly activities and more birding information and unique exhibits for all ages to enjoy.

Meet us outdoors in Keshav's Garden at the library. In the event of inclement weather, this program will be located in Meeting Room 2.

More info: IPPL Calendar link

This is a walk-up event; registration is NOT required.

If you register here on Eventbrite, you'll receive reminder emails so that you won't forget to bring your birding questions and get ready to LEARN.

We will welcome expert birder Denis Kania from the DuPage Birding Club for a presentation on attracting hummingbirds to your yard. Karly Tumminello, Master Naturalist and Director of the Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum, will follow, sharing her knowledge of birds you might notice in your backyard.

Each of these presentations require registration at this IPPL Calendar Link. They will be in a hybrid format so if you can't attend in person you can watch from home. The Zoom link will come from IPPL, so be sure to register.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about our feathered friends. See you there!

More about Denis Kania:

Denis Kania has been birding since the mid-80s. He wishes that he had started earlier in life, but he has made up for lost time. Just about everything in Denis’s life is bird related. When not admiring birds in our local preserves, or bird monitoring at Fermilab Denis organizes trips for friends and travels just about anywhere in the world. Most of his adventures have been in South America. He has also been focusing on Africa and SE Asia. Upcoming trips include exploring the island nation of Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic.

Denis teaches bird identification classes at the Morton Arboretum and has been doing so since 1997. Denis loves to teach and share information. His latest efforts involve an education channel on YouTube where he discusses all things bird related. Check them out. There are over 60 mini-tutorials available via the DuPage Birding Club. Denis has also worked with several agencies to present webinars on some of his favorite topics including hummingbirds, gardening for nature, migration, and workshops on improving birding skills.
