Experience proves that basic training in emergency preparedness and disaster survival skills improves the ability of people to survive until help arrives. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program trains you to prepare for and respond to emergencies in your community, making the whole City safer, stronger and better prepared.
In this course you will learn about hazards that may impact the City and the disaster response skills needed to respond, such as fire safety, utility controls, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, disaster medical operations, and team organization. Using the skills gained in the classroom and during CERT exercises, members will be able to assist their families, communities and workplaces in the critical moments after an emergency before professional responders are available to help.
This course is provided FREE of charge by the City of Richmond - Office of Emergency Management. Each participant will receive a basic CERT kit and a certificate of completion, in addition to becoming a part of a team of skilled volunteers dedicated to helping when disasters happen. Attendees must participate in all 3 training days to receive their kit and certificate.
You will receive your CERT kit at the start of the course and your certificate at the end of the final training day June 1, 2024.
Lunch and snacks will be provided on training days. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.
