An exciting evening of conversation between two highly distinguished history makers who have dedicated their careers to collaborating with others as they make sense of the world by turning the past upside down and inside out.
Join ARC Laureate Fellow Lynette Russell and the new CEO of the South Australian Museum Dr David Gaimster as they reflect upon wrestling with the past and wrangling it into compelling stories for general audiences. Facilitated by South Australia’s History Advocate, Dr Kiera Lindsey. Ticket includes a drink upon entry.

As Sir John Monash Distinguished Professor and Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow, Lynette Russell has developed an anthropological approach to the story of the past which involves ‘yarning with the archive’, engaging with archaeologists as she interrogates the last 1000 years of encounter history between First Nation peoples and the Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and Makassar.
As CEO of the South Australian Museum, David Gaimster is drawing upon his first love in archaeology, his experience at The Hunterian, University of Glasgow, the British Museum and on his most recent role directing the development of the world-class Te Ao Mãrama atrium of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, to community co-design and a new vision for the South Australian Museum, which will focus upon the expansive story of Southern Australia.
Hosted by the South Australian Museum and the Graduate Program in Curatorial and Museum Studies at The University of Adelaide as part of the History Festival.
