About this Event
Discover a fascinating history of adventure and expeditions with Melbourne University Mountaineering Club (MUMC) Deputy Archivist Felix Schaap, in conversation with fellow members, as he provides insights into the cultural and historical significance of MUMC. Felix will share ephemera from the MUMC archives, shedding new light on developments in mountaineering equipment, the meaning of oxo and what the archives reveal about the club’s historic expeditions. Archives and Special Collections Archivist Melinda Barrie will speak to a University of Melbourne Archives photo album chronicling alumna Elise Fitzpatrick’s 1948 Cradle Mountain trek documenting clothing, bushwalking technologies and changes to the Cradle Mountain landscape over the last six decades. Join us as we uncover the history of the University’s long-standing mountaineering club, in this special collaboration.
Presented in partnership with the PGAV’s Analog Art program, Archives and Special Collections' Spotlight Series features archivists, librarians, curators, researchers, academics and artists. Each session will spotlight the wonders our collections hold and create an informal space for engaging in critical conversations, reflective discussions, slow looking, creative workshops, talks and much more.
