About this Event

This class will be teaching the fundamentals and history of Locking. Students will learn the foundation, techniques, and applied concepts of the funk-style street dance known as Locking. Students will also be learning the history of this dance from its origins in Los Angles and its founder and creator, Don Campbell, to understanding the origins of its movements and how it came to be. While, learning its application in both choreography and freestyle. My goals/intentions for the class will be sharing the joy and style of Campbellocking/Locking. Also, I want to making sure that students have a good understanding of the dance while having fun with it too. What I want students to get out of this class is understanding the power and fun that this dance brings to the table. Also, I want students to know that this dance extends beyond the traditional funk.

Kevin Saicheur began dancing in high school of 2007, breakdancing with friends and learning from YouTube. He started sneaking into sessions with the UC Davis Breakdance and Popping club in 2008, where he started to take dance more seriously. Over the following years, Kevin has learned various styles including Popping, Hip Hop, Locking, and House. All of which have led to opportunities to dance with amazing companies and individuals such as the Bay Area Lockers, the Great House of Dance, MK Modern, The PROJECT co., Tribe Crew, Syndicate, Brandon “Knowbody” Greathouse, Brian “Lil B” Perez, Keeley “Lockn’ Key” Kaukimoce, Francis Tyrell and most recently, Boom Chaka Lockers. Kevin truly values freestyle, its foundations, the culture and history behind them; and believe that every dancer could benefit learning from it.
