Maurice Lavallée, born on October 31, 1904, in Saint-Robert, Quebec, left a lasting legacy in Edmonton. He began his teaching career at the Collège Saint-François-Xavier in Edmonton in December 1927. His dedication to education and community led to the establishment of École Maurice-Lavallée, the first publicly funded francophone school in Edmonton. The school officially opened its doors on November 27, 1984. Prior to that, it was operated by Edmonton Catholic Schools under the name École J. H. Picard School. Maurice Lavallée’s vision and commitment continue to shape the vibrant francophone community in Edmonton.
