About this Event
Dear Friend in Sport Movement Skill,
The Emergence Team would like to invite you to lock arms with us on Thursday, June 26th and Friday, June 27th for the 8th Annual Sport Movement Skill Conference (SMSC)!
With this year’s SMSC, for the first time since way back in 2019, we are going back to being fully in person after two straight years of taking more of the hybrid route.
The reason for this is quite simple: after SMSC ‘24 last October, and even though the event contained a number of stellar presentations from many of the top thought leaders and world class practitioners from across the movement and skill acquisition community, it still felt as though something significant was glaringly missing.
We all know that coaching, sports performance, and skill acquisition is a very hands-on endeavor. To really get good and to test yourself as a practitioner, someone needs to roll up their sleeves, get themselves thrown into the fire, wrestle with a host of challenges, maybe make more than a few mistakes, and be given the opportunity to grow and evolve on the other side of it all.
So, calling it as it is here now...virtual and remote events are great for connecting with those worldwide that we may not typically get to. For that reason, we are grateful for what the 2020-2024 Sport Movement Skill Conferences afforded to us all. However, it is also time to face the facts: it’s really easy to hide behind a computer screen or pretend to be something different from across the world.
This is why we felt it was now or never to get back in person. Meaning, it’s time for us all to get real again and immerse ourselves in the mix of all that skill acquisition has to offer; both the tremendous opportunities and the challenges! This is precisely the sweet spot of where your individualized craft and the greater collective skill acquisition community can swell and grow.
Thus, theme for SMSC 2025 will be: EMBEDDED
SMSC ‘25 will take the lead on bringing us all back to the necessary challenge points where evolution is the only option. It is here where both theory and practice, science and art, can co-exist, channeling the development of each individual’s craft, leading to positive implications in the field.
If you have been to any past SMSC, whether it was in-person or while attending virtual, you already know that the SMSC is the premier opportunity for every skill acquisition professional to find themselves. It is the event unlike any other in sports performance where countless opportunities arise to lock arms with dozens of other passionate sport movement skill aficionados, and let your own ideas evolve through the unique interactions of the event. Your craft and practice is guaranteed to change as a result!
Specifically, coaches and skill acquisition specialists, WILL learn how to better:
- Understand the contemporary skill acquisition concepts that really mater and how (and where) they live and breathe in practice
- Analyze movement behavior in context
- Purposefully manipulate constraints to meet the individualized needs and skill set of your athletes
- Communicate with and guide athletes towards more skillful movement behavior that transfers to the game
As usual, we are extremely excited about this year’s SMSC speaker line-up. Please see the current line-up below (their specific topics and sessions will be announced shortly) with a few others to be added shortly. Their expertise and energy will be sure to leave you inspired and ready to achieve more in your own craft!
Ultimately, we hope that you decide to lock arms alongside us at the 2025 Sport Movement Skill Conference in Minnesota on June 26 and 27, 2025. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly ([email protected]) or our team at Emergence ([email protected]).
Be attuned, adaptable, and dexterous!
