About this Event
Ever wonder why your jack-o-lanterns start to droop after Halloween? Why does your compost pile smell so bad? What happens to all of the fall leaves after they land on the ground? Join IslandWood and King County to dig up the dirt on decomposition. We’ll learn about the tiny critters that are cleaning up our ponds, soil, and even our own poop. There will be arts, crafts, soil and water investigations, and much more!
Adult participation is expected. We want families to learn and work together! Although this event is recommended for families with youth ages 6-12, we are open to all ages. Please make a decision about your child's ability to participate based on the following information: This event involves using microscopes, off-trail exploration, using craft supplies, looking at identification guides, exploring safely near water, using tools like nets and shovels to collect samples, and making observations.
