This is something of a homecoming for me. I grew up in Livermore and spend many hours quietly reading and studying away at the Public Library. It was my sanctuary from my otherwise turbulent youth. I'm so happy I will be sharing the skills I've acquired in the space where my love for literature was fostered.
Please bring your own writing that you would like to work on presenting in spoken word form. If you don't have any we will begin our workshop with a generative writing session and you may use that as your material.
We will touch on the subjects of inflection, volume, rhythm (established and broken), vocal projection, crescendo, cacaphony, silent pauses, contrasting intensity
We will also share memory techniques and extemporaneous/improvisational skill. Conquering stage fright.
The commonalities and distinctions between Spoken Word with monologue, oral interpretation, public speaking, and sermons.
