Sharmont (Influence) Little, the vibrant 2024 New Haven Poet Laureate, is a dynamic poet, actor, and activist. He channels the power of spoken word poetry to amplify Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s profound message: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." As an impassioned educator and advocate, Influence dedicates his talent to uplifting inner-city youth, with notable performances at prestigious institutions like Yale, Virginia State, and Boston Universities, and numerous other colleges and public schools nationwide.
Influence has graced stages at iconic poetry venues, including the Nuyorican Poets Café and the Lizard Lounge. He is a six-time member of the Connecticut poetry slam team, Verbal Slap; he also coached the 2017 Verbal Slap and 2021 Yale University poetry slam teams. His commitment extends beyond the stage; he has represented workers of Yale New Haven Hospital 1199 union and spoken to members of Congress in Washington DC advocating for the Free Labor Choice Act.
He is the founder of Influence A Life LLC, a program that offers a curriculum fostering coping skills, social skills, and conflict resolution. Living by his creed, "Influence a life every day; it’s just a way of living," Sharmont embodies the spirit of change and the enduring power of words.
Daniel Hill, the heartbeat of the sensational Family's Blues Band, graces stages with familial synergy, creating a sonic experience that transcends jazz and resonates with the soulful melodies of the Gospel Choir for Mixed Magic Theatre. From grandiose weddings to intimate local pubs, Daniel's enchanting talents have woven a musical tapestry that envelops every corner of Rhode Island. Brace yourself for a musical odyssey as Daniel Hill paints the town with the vibrant strokes of his piano genius.
“Sweet P Guitar” is the moniker of Paul Williams, an experienced musician versed in R&B, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, and other popular music genres. Paul is also a baritone vocalist with acting experience, adding a multifaceted dimension to his artistic repertoire.
Our gracious host, Alisha A. Pina, has officially launched her business, Inner Wingspan, which offers marketing, communications, and consulting services in addition to her empowerment speaking, writing endeavors, and spoken word performances like her compelling piece, “Black Love, Love Black.” A lifelong resident of Rhode Island, Alisha is a true multi-hyphenate talent..
