January Lecture - Early Peoples in the Plateau: Nimíipuu Knowledge and Landscape Adaptation in the Bitterroot Mountains
Mountain environments have shaped Indigenous lifeways and knowledge yet remain underrepresented in landscape research. This archaeological talk shares collaborative research with the Nimíipuu (Nez Perce) brings together geoarchaeology and ethnogeology and explores how land use mobility, and seasonal subsistence shaped life in the western Bitterroot Mountain uplands of Idaho.
The Spokane Chapter of the AIA is proud to provide a lecture series from September - April on various archaeological topics. The AIA promotes archaeological inquiry and public understanding of the material record of the human past to foster an appreciation of diverse cultures and our shared humanity.
