Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy: Assessments, Goals, and Interventions

This workshop offers participants an overview of the approaches used in Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy. Based on a rich history of scholarship, the workshop brings together psychology and theology principles in an integrated approach. Practitioners are encouraged to approach clients holistically and to incorporate the rich diversity of each individual client in forming clinical approaches. This workshop will give practical tools to the clinician in the areas of assessment, goal-setting, and clinical counseling interventions. We will explore spiritual life maps, spiritual genograms, and a spiritual ecomap. This workshop will also review the ethical bounds a clinician should consider in taking this type of clinical approach.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will discuss and evaluate empirically examined interventions with individuals from diverse faith traditions.

2. Participants will explore several tools for assessment and engagement with clients including spiritual life map, spiritual genogram, and spiritual ecomap.

3. Participants will apply principles of spiritual integration in clinical practice to a case discussion and consider specific modifications necessary to empower clients.
