About this Event
Locust Street Art's Animation Team presents... SPIRITED AWAY (2001)
Join us on February 20th for a special screening of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away (2001). Our animation team will introduce the film and share about the historical significance of the movie. Guests are welcome to stay after the film for a discussion on themes, animation styles, artistic choices, and more!
This movie screening is Pay What You Can. Popcorn and Hot Chocolate will be available to purchase before the screening!
A note from Roger Scott, seasoned Animator and Animation Instructor at LSA:
"Its significance is historic: Spirited Away became the first—and still one of the only—anime features to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, affirming animation as a global art form and cementing Miyazaki’s influence on world cinema. The win signaled that animation rooted in cultural specificity and hand-crafted artistry could resonate universally, reshaping how the medium is valued beyond Hollywood."
Accessibility
Locust Street Art is located in a historic building with eight steps to access our main entrance. A side entrance is available for students with limited mobility—this entrance has four steps to access our main hallway. We are currently fundraising to make our building more accessible. Please contact us if you have concerns related to accessibility so we can try to make accommodations. Limited free parking is available on the street.
All screening proceeds go to support our community art classes!
