Starting with Spirituals, Moving to Murder Ballads and Original Protest MusicHendrik (Henny), the music manager at the Porch, is hosting these 1st Wednesday shows for the next few months. Starting a 6PM, the band Coywolf Johnson will lead family members, special guests and audience participants in singing 4-5 well-loved spirituals. These songs are for bringing people together and have been used in community building, the civil rights and peace movements for generations. Lyric sheets will be available at the event.
After, the band will transition into playing original and specially selected cover tunes that have been deeply inspired by African-American spirituals. Blues, murder ballads, protest songs and original material about living today.
Hendrik with be singing and playing bass, Tony Savarino will be playing guitars and Edwin Walker will be playing drums. Anyone interested in participating in the spiritual sing are encouraged to get in touch @coywolfjohnson on social media platforms.
