About this Event

An Afterword Society Gathering

Spine & Glass brings people together in thoughtfully chosen spaces, where a shared read and guided conversation build connection and community.

What This Is

A relaxed, social conversation for people who enjoy reading and connecting without the pressure of a traditional book club.
We’ll gather around a table and use the novel Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid as a starting point for discussion about identity, family, reinvention, and what surfaces when people come together.
What's Included

  • 90-minute curated conversation experience
  • Small group setting with a new community (8-12 guests max)
  • Light facilitation to guide the conversation
  • Reserved table and logistics handled in a reading-inspired space
  • Relaxed social environment design for connection, not performance

What's Not Included

  • Food and drinks (available for purchase from the venue)
  • A copy of the book (please source in the format you prefer)
  • Formal literary analysis

What to Expect

  • A small group (8–12 people)
  • A calm, social, reading-inspired space
  • Light facilitation to keep conversation flowing
  • Engaging discussion and great community
  • Space to listen, share, or simply be part of the room

About the Conversation

Malibu Rising centers on one pivotal night — a gathering where long-held truths, tensions, and relationships rise to the surface.

Our conversation will explore themes like:

  • What gatherings reveal about people
  • Public image vs. private truth
  • Family and chosen family
  • Reinvention at different stages of life

You’re welcome whether you’ve read the whole book, part of it, or are simply familiar with the story.

Who This Is For

This gathering is for people who:

  • love books but don’t want to run a book club
  • value conversation and community
  • enjoy meeting thoughtful people in a low-pressure setting
  • want community without the effort of organizing it

About Afterword Society

Afterword Society is a library of curated conversations guided by books, designed for connection.

Each Spine & Glass gathering is part of our foundational collection, offered regularly for new members and first-time guests.
