Introduction to SpeedRailz Scrimmage:
SpeedRailz Scrimmage is an innovative practice game designed for bartenders to hone their skills in speed, accuracy, and mechanics in preparation for the SpeedRailz Season 3 or to simply improve their bartending prowess. This scrimmage uses non-alcoholic substitutes (water) to simulate the cocktail and shot-making process, offering a practical and cost-effective training method.
What is SpeedRailz?
SpeedRailz is a groundbreaking competition platform where the art of bartending meets the thrill of racing against the clock. Born from a desire to spotlight the talent, skill, and creativity of bartenders, SpeedRailz transcends traditional mixology contests by emphasizing speed, accuracy, and the electric atmosphere of live competition.
At its core, SpeedRailz is an exhilarating showcase of bartending excellence. Competitors are tasked with creating a series of cocktails and shots within a tight timeframe, transforming each match into a spectacle of precision and flair. It’s a race where every second counts, and the mastery of mixology is pushed to its limits.
Competitors face off in head-to-head battles, with each round consisting of the preparation of three meticulously crafted cocktails and six perfectly poured shots. Utilizing a mix of traditional techniques and innovative flair, bartenders must navigate a gauntlet of drink-making challenges, all while adhering to stringent rules that demand perfection.
Scrimmage Game Format:
- Participants: Open to bartenders seeking to improve their speed and technique (current and potential SpeedRailz Competitors).
- Setup: We use water-filled liquor bottles and squeeze bottles containing non-alcoholic mixers to simulate real drink preparation.
- Challenge: Bartenders are tasked with preparing a set of "cocktails" and "shots" following specific recipes outlined for shaken cocktails, stirred cocktails, and mojitos.
- Execution: Participants can compete head-to-head or individually, timing their performance for comparison.
Scrimmage Rules & Scoring:
- Time: A good benchmark time for one set sprint (one cocktail and one round of shots) is around one minute. Timing begins with the MC's start signal and stops once the final drink is correctly served and the station reset.
- Station Reset: Participants must return their workstation to a predetermined standard layout before stopping the clock.
- Infractions: Time penalties are applied for rule violations, including incorrect drink preparation, failure to reset the station properly, and serving errors.
- Relay Option: For team practice, each bartender completes a set and passes a jigger (as the baton) to the next teammate, simulating relay dynamics.
Tournament Scoring:
- Participants earn points based on their completion time, with deductions for any infractions.
- The fastest, most accurate bartender or team with the fewest cumulative penalties wins the scrimmage.
- Optional: Host venues or groups can organize scrimmage tournaments, ranking bartenders or teams based on their performance across multiple rounds.
