precision of the physical performer taught by Keith Berger.
About this Event
The LA Mime Festival presents Speed Zero taught by Keith Berger. Speed Zero is a movement discipline aimed at enhancing the presence and precision of the physical performer. It begins with learning a method of super slow motion derived from the ancient practices of Tai Chi and Butoh. From there, students break down time to its essence, creating stunning physical images individually and in groups. As an ongoing performance exercise, students explore the following movement concepts: With/Against/Outside, Isolations, Degrees of Tension, Levels, and Evolving Tableau.
All workshops are held in the Caminito Theatre on the LACC campus.
About the Instructor:
KEITH BERGER adheres to no one “doctrine” of physical theatre. His influences range from the classical French Pantomime of Jean-Louis Barrault and Marcel Marceau to the forcefully dynamic American Mime Theatre. Keith was among the very first performers to take his act on to the streets of New York City and was named by Joseph Papp the city’s “Most Outstanding Street Performer.” From there he went on to tour his one-man show throughout the United States and Europe. Among these concerts were featured performances at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The Palm Beach Arts Festival, and a Royal Command Performance for Princess Grace of Monaco. Some of his T.V. and film credits include Red Skelton’s Funny Faces, Crossover Dreams, Angel Heart, The Suicide Club, and a starring role on CBS’ Space Rangers. Off-Broadway, Keith wrote and starred in Broken Toys. In 1990, Keith teamed up with his new partner (and wife), Sharon Diskin, to form their highly acclaimed duo, The Chameleons. Renowned for their exhilarating performance style and professional discipline, The Chameleons have performed their programs for over 1 million children and adults all over the world. Keith has taught classes in Physical Theatre and Mime across the U.S., Europe, and Asia, including at Cornell University, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, The Disney Animation Studios and at hundreds of schools throughout Southern California. He is a Master Teaching Artist with The L.A. Music Center and The Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts. Keith and Sharon received the PASA award for excellence as professional artists in the schools, presented by the County of Los Angeles, California Arts Council, and the California Department of Education.
