This is a monthly speed updating / debating club for members of the community to have fun, learn about interesting topics, and improve critical thinking skills. We will rotate between informal "speed updating" and a more formal debating style.
On December 10th, join us for the second event in our debate club series. In this session we will be covering how to construct arguments, including what makes a good argument, how to ensure arguments are relevant to the topic, and connecting arguments to the overall case being made. We will begin with a discussion and workshopping of these skills with some examples, and time permitting, conclude with some practice debates in small groups.
We plan to use the following debate topics for practice, but if you have any suggestions for debate topics please let us know, we'd love to hear your suggestions!
1. Fundamentally all that matters morally is wellbeing.
2. Animal agriculture should be phased out completely.
3. Climate change is no longer one of our biggest problems.
Plant-based snacks will be provided.
