The National AIDS Memorial Quilt Comes to Conejo Players Theatre. The Conejo Players Production of RENT, which runs through July 7, has procured one of the over 50,000 twelve foot panels of the National AIDS Memorial (NAM) Quilt and is offering a public viewing session on Sunday June 30 from 4:30pm - 8:00pm (this is an open to the public viewing, no ticket required).
The Quilt was conceived in 1985 by Cleve Jones and a small group of friends as a way to remember those lost to AIDS. He created the first panel in honor of his friend Marvin Fledman, and the Quilt grew to one of the largest community art projects. The full Quilt has been on display in Washington DC and San Francisco, and individual panels loaned out to communities nationwide. This is a rare opportunity to see a panel - and one that has special significance to Thousand Oaks. This panel is Block 4062 and contains a piece stitched together by Irene Gatton and Suzanne Devine from Los Robles Medical Center in honor of Bonnie Miller Newland (Feb 2, 1943 - Nov 9, 1991) and Richard Alan Clasen (Feb 25 1950 - Dec 24, 1993).
