Join us for a journey into the world of art and imagination with our "Storytime Splatter" workshop, inspired by the book, "Ablaze with Color", a story of painter Alma Thomas, by Jeanne Harvey. This engaging activity is perfect for budding young artists aged 5 to 8.Details:
Reservation: Each reservation is for 1 child and their parent.
Storytime: Our adventure begins with an interactive storytelling session featuring Tracey Lafayette, reading "Ablaze with Color." This story follows .... Kids are encouraged to practice active listening and interact with the reader and group.
Tracey Lafayette, our reader, is a middle school English Language Arts teacher and former elementary school educator with a lifelong love of books, especially picture books! A creative spirit at heart, she enjoys drawing, painting, and exploring all kinds of artistic expression in her free time. Ablaze with Color: A Story of Painter Alma Thomas by Jeanne Harvey is a beautifully illustrated picture book about American Artist Alma Thomas. Alma Thomas was the first Black woman to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum in New York City and the first Black woman to have her work chosen for the White House collection! Her story is an inspiration to young artists everywhere!
Creative Exploration: After enjoying the story, each child and parent pair will receive a "care package" of protective clothing coverings (a plastic poncho, boot covers, gloves, shower cap, and eye protection.) Each child will receive a 6"x6" canvas and the entire Storytime group will enter the splatter painting room where they will find an assortment of paints and tools they can use to make their own splatter art.
Take-Home Masterpiece: At the end of the workshop, each participant will take home their one-of-a-kind splatter-painted canvas in a box.
Dress for the Mess!: Although we provide protective gear, we recommend wearing clothing you don't mind getting paint on. Our acrylic paints may not wash out of fabric.
Recommended Age Group: This workshop is tailored for children aged 5 to 8. Younger participants may also join with parental guidance.
