As we move into cooler weather, itโs a great time to dig valuable native plants for re-establishment in the spring. This Saturday, Sept. 20, 9-11a.m., we will work in the Halff Park section of Spring Creek Forest Preserve (4695 Ranger Drive) to rescue plants growing on the access road that was cut into the forest earlier this year. We will pot these plants up, move them to a city of Garland greenhouse for overwintering, then transplant them back into Halff Park along our walking trail in early spring. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age; space is limited and RSVPs are required for this event. Please reserve your space via an email to [email protected].
Bring water, gloves, and hand trowels or shovels with long, thin blades (like sharpshooters and Root Slayers). Rolling garden carts (or even childrenโs wagons) are especially welcome.
Many thanks to the Garland Parks and Recreation Department and the staff of the Roach Garden Center and Greenhouse for sharing this fantastic resource with the Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest. #GarlandParks
