This year marks the 27th year of the Polar Plunge in Indiana. We raised more than $1 million in 2025 and look to surpass that mark this year.
The Polar Plunge is Special Olympics Indiana’s signature fundraising series and a bucket-list experience – challenging people to take an icy dip to demonstrate a commitment to the cause.
All funds raised by the Polar Plunge directly benefit the more than 19,000 Special Olympics athletes throughout the state, giving them the means to train locally and compete at the state level in more than 20 Olympic-type sports.

Many people don’t realize that Special Olympics Indiana does not receive any state or federal funding for its sports programs. That’s what makes the Polar Plunge so important for supporting our vision of a more inclusive world for all.
More than $12.4 million has been raised in the 26-year history of the Polar Plunge season.
Each year, more than 3,000 Hoosiers of all ages and backgrounds participate in Polar Plunge events.
In addition to our community plunges, we also offer campus and high school plunges that are specifically designed and programmed for students.
Everyone who raises the minimum amount of $125 at a community Polar Plunge will receive a commemorative Polar Plunge T-shirt.
Individuals who go beyond in their efforts to support the Polar Plunge by raising a minimum of $4,000 and plunge at two venues are eligible to be recognized as Super Plungers. About 20 individuals earn this distinction each year.
Additionally, statewide events are supported locally by community organizations and businesses.
