The Oak Park Black Film Festival's Black Cinema Showcase at the Guild Theater is pleased to be one of the select theaters to debut N.W.A: Not Without Alonzo, which has received multiple awards.
N.W.A: Not Without Alonzo is a documentary chronicling the origins and evolution of West Coast hip-hop through the life and influence of Alonzo "Lonzo" Williams. Known as the "Godfather of West Coast Hip-Hop," Lonzo’s journey began in 1976 as a young DJ, and over the years, he emerged as one of the most pivotal figures in the genre, discovering legendary artists like Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and many others who went on to revolutionize music.
This documentary offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the rise of West Coast hip-hop, showcasing never-before-seen footage from Lonzo’s personal life, highlighting his profound impact on hip-hop culture, and tracing the roots of his iconic club, Eve After Dark, where so many careers were born. With exclusive interviews, rare performances, and insights from some of the biggest names in the industry, N.W.A: Not Without Alonzo is a must-see for hip-hop fans around the world, offering an unparalleled look at how one man’s vision shaped a cultural movement.
