About this Event
The contribution Australian passenger ships made to the survival of Australia in the two world wars is often forgotten against the epic tragedy of both conflicts however this talk will shine a light of a handful of ships, from the grand ocean liners such as the Strathallan and Orcades to the coastal vessels such as the Wollongbar II that came to a premature and violent end. We will also look at the sinking of the Ballarat in 1917 and the surprising reason why everyone survived and celebrate the formidable war service of the Burns Philp liner Bulolo together with many others!
