About Ed:
"I’m Edward Michel, the Inspector General. My role is to lead the OIG and ensure we fulfill our mission of identifying and mitigating fraud, waste, abuse and public corruption as we promote efficiency of city operations. I am a native New Orleanian and am proud and honored to serve you and all residents of New Orleans.
Before I became Inspector General, I was the First Assistant Inspector General for Criminal Investigations and IT Program Manager for the OIG. Prior to that, I served in the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ) for 23 years.

During my tenure at the DOJ, I served in several leadership roles within the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). They included:

-Assistant Special Agent in Charge
-FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force Commander
-FBI Division’s Media Representative
-Certified Police Instructor
-National Indian Gaming Working Group Coordinator
My experience has helped me hone my expertise in leading teams to achieve organizational goals and objectives to identify and mitigate fraud, waste, abuse, and public corruption.
I attended Tulane University, where I received a Master of Professional Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Paralegal Studies. I have received the Integrity Award from the Office of Inspector General, U.S. Health and Human Services for my relentless pursuit of fraud, waste, and abuse. I have also received the Spirit of Courage award from the NAACP."
