Kati Preston recounts her harrowing story of being hidden in a barn to escape deportation to Auschwitz when the Nazis invaded her hometown of Nagyvárad, Hungary, in 1944. She reflects on her once idyllic childhood and her close relationships with her parents. Kati also shares how, later in life, she found herself influenced by Stalin’s propaganda, drawing parallels to the way her fellow countrymen had been swayed by Hitler. The film concludes with her son discussing how Hungary is currently rewriting its history. Throughout the film, reenactments bring key moments to life, complemented by interviews with various individuals.
