About this Event
'Fires and Fascism' shows that wildfires in Europe are more than simply a result of climate change, but link to big business, organised crime, and the far right. It shows community activity, rewilding, protest, and direct action are valuable tools to build a safer and more sustainable future. Despite the provocative title, this film aims to question what 'far right' means and to bring people together in a time when vested interests are dividing society. It aims to bring peace at a time when political differences are growing.
"The film is non-profit, independent, and crowdfunded. It is my first film after leaving an academic career in air quality, where I felt storytelling could improve my societal impact."
The response to the recent screenings has been overwhelmingly positive, with venues organising second screenings. The Picturehouse cinema chain has added it to their Green Screen showings with screenings in Brighton, London, and Norwich. Bristol has facilitated three screenings so far, with Bristol University planning more.
