About this Event
Charm City Books is excited to announce a very special Educators’ Night event with New York Times bestselling author, Kate Andersen Brower, who will discuss ways in which teachers can use her middle reader/YA non-fiction book, The Hill: Inside the Secret World of the U.S. Capitol, as a resource in middle and high school classrooms!
As one of the most recognizable symbols of the oldest democracy in the world, the U.S. Capitol is home to the legislative branch, where senators and representatives work to pass laws. The building, whose first stone was laid by George Washington, contains a world seldom glimpsed and rarely known. Join a conversation that will delve into this deeply American story as Brower highlights the history and hauntings, secrets and surprises, restricted nooks and crannies, and staffers—from pages to doorkeepers to librarians—who work hard each day within the hallowed halls of the Capitol.
Brower, a journalist for the New York Times and Washington Post, Obama-era Bloomberg News reporter, CNN contributor, former CBS News staffer and Fox News producer, and author of the No. 1 New York Times bestsellers The Residence (slated to be made into a Netflix television series produced by Shonda Rhimes) and First Women, will be in conversation with Haley Tilt, youth engagement specialist at Baltimore City Schools—a public policy professional and experienced educator. Tilt also serves as advisor to the Associated Student Congress of Baltimore City,
Please join us for what promises to be an amazing program as we discuss ways to nurture the citizens of tomorrow!
$5 ticket cost will be applied to purchase of The Hill.
