Visiting us from Kingston and just back from touring South Africa, super talented Melissa Noventa will share with you beautiful Afrocuban motion.Enhance your salsa dancing by learning about its roots. Deepen your musicality, expand your body awareness and increase your movement vocabulary. This special workshop welcomes all-level dancers, both leaders and followers.

MORE ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Melissa Noventa is a dancer and ethnographer with over 20 years of experience performing and teaching a diverse range of dance styles, including classical, contemporary, urban, West African, Latin, and Afro-Caribbean forms.
Since 2005, she has traveled regularly to Cuba, training with members of prestigious ensembles such as Conjunto Folklórico Nacional, Afrocuba de Matanzas, and Raíces Profundas.
Her performance credits span international stages and diverse collaborations, including performing alongside Canada’s Arcade Fire, opening for legendary Cuban groups like Los Van Van and Alexander Abreu, and, most recently, touring South Africa with Obeah Opera.
Currently pursuing her PhD at Queen’s University, Melissa’s research examines cultural diplomacy through dance, particularly in Canada-Cuba relations.
She is excited to connect with the Ottawa community, sharing her understanding of Afro-Cuban rhythms and movement in this immersive workshop.
