Preparing for the Event
You’ll need to bring with you:
- 1x Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Spearhead force
- 1x Complete set of Spearhead cards (minimum 1 x set of Battle Tactics cards, and both Twist decks. We recommend putting your cards in sleeves to protect them and make them easily recognisable as yours)
- 5x Objective Tokens (this is simply some way of marking the objectives as belonging to you. These could be as simple as coins or tokens, but could be a modelled objective marker on a base no bigger than 32mm)
- A copy of the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Rules*
- A copy of all the rules you need for your Spearhead*
- 1x Tape Measure and enough dice to get you through your game
- 1x Ballpoint Pen for recording your Quests
*If you're using a digital device for your rules, please ensure it has sufficient charge!
What We Will Provide
Every table will have a Spearhead board and painted scenery provided. You’ll also be given your Spearhead Quests Record Card. Don’t lose it!
Your Army
You’ll need to bring one complete Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Spearhead force.
- Your models do not need to be painted, but if they are, you will be rewarded AND you’ll be able to enter them into the Best Army Competition.
- Models must be fully assembled and should have the right weapons as denoted in the Spearhead rules, but close proxies are acceptable (eg - your Mortek Guard have swords instead of spears or your Kroxigor are actually Warspawned instead of standard Kroxigor. Just make sure it’s obvious for your opponent).
Your Games
You’ll play two games of Spearhead, each lasting up to one and a half hours. Your first opponent will be randomised while your second opponent will be organised for you based on the result of your first game. Players who won will be drawn up against other players who won, and so forth.
Game 1 will be played on the Aqshy board while Game 2 will be played on the Ghyran board (this choice is taken away from the players at the beginning of the game).
Scoring
At the beginning of the evening, you’ll be given your Spearhead: Quests Record Card. You’ll note on the card that there are 40 separate Quests, or achievements, which you’re looking to complete throughout the evening. Completing each Quest is worth a varied amount of Quest Points, with 50 Quest Points being the maximum available.
To complete a Quest, simply tick the box next to that Quest on your Record Card. Have your opponent sign their initials next to it, and you’ll count as having scored it.
The only exception to this is the Painting section of the Quests, which the Event Staff will determine.
Once a Quest has been completed, it cannot be completed again in this event. So, no scoring the same one twice!
At the end of the event, once you’ve finished your second game and added up your Quest Points, hand in your Quest Record Card to the events staff. Your final position in the event will be determined by how many total Quest Points you have scored. The following will then be used as secondary sorters:
- Quest Points earned from Victories
- Quest Points earned from Favourite Opponent Votes
- Quest Points earned from Painting
The Quests you'll be aiming to achieve at the event can be previewed here.
Best Army Competition
In between the games, every player will have a chance to display their Spearhead force on the table they were playing on. Why not include your themed terrain if you brought that with you too? The Events Staff will place an entry number next to each army and players are encouraged to have a look round the armies on display and vote for their favourite. The player who’s Spearhead army receives the most votes will win the Best Army award!
Favourite Opponent
At the end of the event, after your second game, you’ll be asked to choose which one of your two opponents was your Favourite Opponent. For each vote you receive from your opponents, you’ll receive 1 Quest Point, so they could make all the difference!
Awards
At the end of the event, we’ll be awarding the following prizes:
- The Spearhead Questmaster: The player who scores the highest number of Quest Points (see ‘Scoring’ above for secondary sorters)
- Best Army: The player who earns the most votes in the Best Army Competition
- Sigmar’s Champion: The player who places highest using a Spearhead from Grand Alliance: Order
- The Chosen of the Dark Gods: The player who places highest using a Spearhead from Grand Alliance: Chaos
- The Servant of Nagash: The player who places highest using a Spearhead from Grand Alliance: Death
- The Realm-Stomper: The player who places highest using a Spearhead from Grand Alliance: Destruction
Game Over Early?
Sometimes, a game of Spearhead may see one of the two forces wiped out before the end of Battle Round 4. When this occurs, it’s important for the players to “play out” the last turns of the game, as players may still be able to score Victory Points or Quest Points.
Bringing Your Own Terrain
One of the great things about Spearhead is that, if you would like to, you can model your own terrain pieces which are themed with your force. What’s more - if you do, and it’s painted, you’ll get a Quest Point!
- You need one Large terrain piece and one Small terrain piece.
- These should display the same traits as the terrain pieces included with Skaventide.
- These should roughly be the same size and shape as the terrain pieces included with Skaventide.
Quest of the Day
At every event, there will be a special, one-off Quest that the Event Staff create and announce at the start of the evening. Keep your ears out for this one - it’s worth a mighty 3 Quest Points if you complete it!
